Tubac Golf Resort Championship Golf Courses
The heart and soul of the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa is its 27 hole Championship Golf Course. The original 18 hole layout was designed by famed golf course architect Robert “Red” Lawrence in 1959. In 1996 many scenes from the golf-themed movie Tin Cup were filmed here. Nine new holes were added, and opened for play on September 18, 2006. Local golf course architect Ken Kavanaugh’s collection of new holes truly enhanced the pre-existing 18 hole layout of mature cottonwood trees and lush fairways with views of the Santa Rita and Tumacacori Mountains. With all of its exciting renovations and restoration, Tubac’s professional course is truly the ultimate golf vacation location in Tucson, Arizona.
Tubac Golf Resort and Spa
A scenic 35 minute drive south of Tucson International Airport awaits the most unique resort enclave in the Southwest. The Tubac Golf Resort and Spa, located on the historic 500 acre Otero Ranch, offers unrivaled accommodations, activities and amenities. Tubac Golf Resort and Spa is a proud member of the Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Spanish soldiers built a fort at Tubac, establishing it as the first European settlement in Arizona. In 1789 a nobleman’s descendant, Don Toribio de Otero, received the first land grant in the Southwest from the King of Spain to cultivate fruit tree orchards and feed the local garrison stationed at the nearby fort. Otero’s 400-acre ranch, located just north of the village of Tubac, became the nucleus of the family’s massive land holdings. After the area became a United States Territory in 1853, and following the Civil War, the Otero family also began raising cattle, further expanding their empire. They finally sold the ranch in 1959 to a group of Tucson businessmen, headed by the late entertainer and avid golfer, Bing Crosby. The Tubac Golf Resort and Spa was born.
The Tubac Golf Resort and Spa has painstakingly preserved their rich and vibrant history, while modernizing their facilities to better accommodate their guests. They have recently undergone a $40 million expansion and restoration that has transformed the Tubac Golf Resort and Spa into a world class resort. In addition to their championship golf courses, they offer outstanding amenities, such as professional tennis facilities, heated outdoor pool, three full service restaurants, spa and a fitness center with cardiovascular equipment and free weights.
