Tubac Golf Resort Championship Golf Courses

Tubac Golf ResortThe heart and soul of the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa is its 27 hole Championship Golf Course. The original 18 hole layout was designed by famed golf course architect Robert “Red” Lawrence in 1959. In 1996 many scenes from the golf-themed movie Tin Cup were filmed here. Nine new holes were added, and opened for play on September 18, 2006. Local golf course architect Ken Kavanaugh’s collection of new holes truly enhanced the pre-existing 18 hole layout of mature cottonwood trees and lush fairways with views of the Santa Rita and Tumacacori Mountains. With all of its exciting renovations and restoration, Tubac’s professional course is truly the ultimate golf vacation location in Tucson, Arizona.

The Anza nine was named after Spanish Captain Juan Bautista de Anza who, in 1775, led an expedition of almost 300 people over 1200 miles to San Francisco and founded a mission there. The Anza nine starts with five brand new holes then finishes with what was old # 10, 11, and 18. The ninth hole (the old #11) is a tricky par three and with its island green is reminiscent of the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass.

The Rancho nine was named after the owners of Tubac’s Rancho Mañana Golf Club in Cave Creek. The Rancho Nine includes not only the “Tin Cup” hole (4), but also the famed “Tubac Triangle”, a four hole stretch that will test the best of players. The 651 yard eighth hole aptly named “Trainwreck” will also test the player’s skill. Any golfer whose ball happens to land on a cow pie on the starting hole can refer to the local rule on the scorecard that states: "Ball landing on cow pie: pick, lick, and place no closer to the hole!"

Tubac Golf Resort and Spa

Tubac Golf Resort & SpaA scenic 35 minute drive south of Tucson International Airport awaits the most unique resort enclave in the Southwest. The Tubac Golf Resort and Spa, located on the historic 500 acre Otero Ranch, offers unrivaled accommodations, activities and amenities. Tubac Golf Resort and Spa is a proud member of the Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Spanish soldiers built a fort at Tubac, establishing it as the first European settlement in Arizona. In 1789 a nobleman’s descendant, Don Toribio de Otero, received the first land grant in the Southwest from the King of Spain to cultivate fruit tree orchards and feed the local garrison stationed at the nearby fort. Otero’s 400-acre ranch, located just north of the village of Tubac, became the nucleus of the family’s massive land holdings. After the area became a United States Territory in 1853, and following the Civil War, the Otero family also began raising cattle, further expanding their empire. They finally sold the ranch in 1959 to a group of Tucson businessmen, headed by the late entertainer and avid golfer, Bing Crosby. The Tubac Golf Resort and Spa was born.
