Hilton Head Island, SC
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Enjoy your Hilton Head golf school at Golden Bear Golf Club. This Nicklaus-designed golf course has quickly earned a name for itself as one of the top-rated layouts on an island of top-flight designs. Ever-present water and sand keep play interesting, but never penalizing. Golfers will find the course puts a premium on strategy and finesse, rather than sheer power. Winding through a beautiful landscape of oak and pine woodlands, the Golden Bear is a fitting complement to the prestigious residential community of Indigo Run.
Opened in 1992, the Golden Bear Golf Club is an excellent example of Hilton Head golf. Created on a fairly flat terrain, with little natural mounding, the Nicklaus Architectural group relied primarily on ponds, marsh and forest to carve a challenging, yet fair test of golf. It is well known for its Low Country beauty & its wide variety of shot-making requirements. The course reaches over 7,000 yards at the tips, but most visitors will have plenty of challenges at either 6,643 or 6,184 yards. This championship layout features 5 sets of tee boxes for the enjoyment of golfers of all skill levels. The facility is owned by ClubCorp USA, a leader in providing truly professional, quality public-access courses.
Each hole of this par 72 course has a character all its own, but the common denominator is that each requires more thought than muscle. No. 2, for instance—a 551-yard par-five, and the longest on the course— begs temptation to cut the first corner, likely sending the ball into water hiding on the left. Then, there's the approach shot—a very well-protected green which should give pause to the seasoned golfer before going for that birdie.
The Golden Bear is the only course on the island to offer a state-of-the-art ParView GPS Electronic Caddy System on every cart. With many technological features, the system aids the golfer with full color features, such as overviews of each hole, pro tips on how to best play the hole, live scoring for groups and more. The Golden Bear Clubhouse includes Just Jack’s Grille and a golf shop featuring merchandise from Jamie Saddock, E McGrath, Nike, Adidas, Titleist, Foot Joy, SDI and Fairways & Greene.
Some golf courses are known for a sensational signature hole. Some for challenge. Others for the sheer beauty of the locale. If strategy and finesse are what attract you, if you're given to a competitive streak, or if you simply enjoy an easygoing round in a beautiful landscape of woodlands, water, and sand, try your hand at Golden Bear at Indigo Run. The ultimate combination of all of the above makes Golden Bear the ideal facility for your golf school in Hilton Head.
